(1) According to family tradition, sometime after his settlement in the VA back
country, he was captured by Indians. (1a) EDGINGTON went to a tub mill
belonging to EDWARDS, and there were about a dozen Dutch boys and girls also
there at the mill. All had to stay overnight. The next morning, all were taken
by the Indians, tomahawked or kidnapped. The Indians tomahawked the
children, except two boys and EDGINGTON, in the mill and set it on fire and
started for Fort Duquense. After going 3 miles, they killed the two remaining
Dutch boys. In crossing a stream, an Indian walked over a log, leaving
EDGINGTON, who waded; and when in the middle of the stream, he pulled in the
Indian, who, when reaching the shore, aimed a tomahawk blow, which EDGINGTON
partly dodged, splitting his nose and upper lip. The other Indians interfered
and saved a repitition of the blow, tied up the wound, and took him first to
Fort Duquesne, and then up the Scioto and kept him for 3 years. Two days
after he was taken, his wife barely escaped, being with a couple of families
of 8 persons, under protection of the soldiers going to Edwards Fort. All were
waylaid and killed. (1c) He was captured near a grist mill and spent 3 years
as a captive. He ran away from the Indians and became lost and returned to
his captors, later being traded to the British.

and his brother was killed. John escaped and came back the next day to bury
his brother.

given some liquor, one of them boasted of having killed Asahel EDGINGTON. John

the Indians left one morning, going up the Ohio River on its right bank. At
Island Creek which empties into the Ohio River about 2 miles above Manchester,
the Indians were shot and killed while crossing the creek on a fallen log.
