According to an article by Greg Arthur in "The East Kentuckian", Bryant was living in Amelia County, Virginia as early as 1730. The book "Gleanings of Virginia Records in England", includes a will dated 1672 which names John Fanning, who went to Virginia with John Brown and Mr. William, as the son of John Fanning, now deceased. The Browns and Allens intermarried in Wilkes County, North Carolina, and John Fanning was in business with the Allen family. John may have been Bryant's father or grandfather, but this has not been proven. Bryant died sometime between January 3, 1765, when his will was written and February 28, 1765, when his will was proved.
