of their children were born. They returned to Patrick County before the Civil
War and lived along present day Route 57 (Fairystone Park Road) near
Fairysto ne Baptist Church. Lee was once one of the largest land owners in
Patrick Coun ty. A licensed distiller, Lee apparently ran afoul of the law in
selling undec lared whiskey and left the country, intending to return when it
was safe. Howe ver, after a few letters home, nothing more was heard from him.
Several resear chers have looked for traces of him in West Virginia, found
records of land ow nership, and found his name on a jury list, but nothing
more. After over one h undred years, with Lee long gone, we learn that he
appeared in Little Rock, Ar kansas in 1882 where he married a young woman, Mary
F. Loyd, and had eight mor e children in addition to the eight he left in
Patrick County. Three of Mary's children died very young, but the five listed
survived and apparently lived re spectable, if not influential, lives. Lee
entered the care of the ConfederateS oldiers home about 1900 where he remained
until he died.

Apparently lived in Henry County for several years , but returned to Patrick Co. before Civil War. Was once a candidate for sherif f of Henry County. Was one of the larger land owners of Sycamore Creek Area in Patrick Co. In 1775/1776, according to tradition, he engaged in legal distiller y business. The liquor he made was subject to a tax which was higher than price he could get so he did not report all the gallons he made. This was common, bu t he got caught and was to be tried. The tax law said that a person must be tri ed within 2 years or the charges would be dropped. Lee decided to leave for 2ye ars and allegedly went to West Virginia. He wrote for a while then quit. He was thought dead but there was a court case in Logan Co. Court that lits him asbei ng summoned as a witness in about 1883, but he did not appear - record saysit w as reported he went to Texas.
