James was 9 months old on the 1880 census. He had an Indian Roll # at Muskogee, OK. It was said that James was the best of trackers.
James got into a fight with a man in town and the man ambushed James on the way home. The bullet went around James' ribs on the left side and James fell of his horse and grabbed his Winchester rifle on the way down and killed the man. When the shooting occurred James lived at home with his parents, Alfred Oliver Henson and Margaret Hesteranne Fain. James and brother John Christopher Columbus (Lum) Henson dressed the wound and never told their parents that he had been shot. James shot rats coming out of the barn with arrows and a bow about 5 foot long he had a smaller bow he used to shoot mice in the house. Bert Glen Burnett, Sr. and his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Lorene) Henson, daughter of John
Christopher (Lum)Henson, spent the night with James (Jim) Henson and found him sitting in his nightshirt and night cap with the oil lamp turned down low waiting for mice to come out so he could shoot them.
James said that Rebecca (Becky) Starr, Greywolf, born ca 1827, told him she was 11 years old when she traveled the "Trail of Tears" in 1838 and when babies were born mothers had to chew the umbilical cord in half because if they stopped to cut it with a rock the soldiers shot them. If mothers had any trouble or took to long giving birth the soldiers shot the mothers. There are other records in the files as to James Hensons activities. Jesse Henson, is believed to have lived in Bennet Bayou in Izard CO. when the 1840 census was taken.The AIS files of the LDS Church serves as a tremendous " tracking tool" there are indications that Sarah has recently died. in about 1842 Jesse married Eleanor (Ellen) probably in AR. In 1850 they were in McDonald County, MO. six of Jesse and Sarah's children are living with them, unless she has died, there is yet another daughter who at this time is not accounted for.Hardeman CO, TN, 1830 census shows a Jesse Henson with wife and three girls under five years old.
