William Harvey HOLLIDAY, son of Joseph & Nancy R. (MCCUNE) HOLLIDAY
Wm. H. Holliday died at his home in Marshall last Friday morning, aged 83
years. His funeral services were held at the residence last Sunday afternoon
conducted by Revs. H.R. Crockett, J.W. Mitchell and James Martin. His remain
were interred at Ridge Park cemetery. The deceased had been in ill health fo
the past five years, as a result of old age and paralysis. He was a man of
strong character and profound faith in the teachings of the Scriptures. He
was uncompromising in his opinions and was a man of strong prejudice. It was
perfectly natural for a man of this character to have strong friends and
bitter enemies, but such was not entirely the case with the deceased, as
everyone who knew him gave him credit for doing what he believed to be right,
and if h erred it was due to his prejudice, and not from a desire to do that
which was not right. He was one of the few men who had strong friends, but no
bitter enemies-whose life was one long uncompromising struggle for t!
hat which he conscientiously thought to be right. Wm. H. Holliday was born
near Paris, KY., in 1817. The same year he was born his parents moved to Pike
county, MO., and from there went to Monroe county. He was married to Miss
Jennie Harper, a native of Woodford county, KY.,, in 1849 and for 50 years
they trod the uneven path of life together. They had no children, but raised
a niece, Miss Emma Lightner (now Mrs. Olson) upon whom all their affections
were centered. Mr. Holliday came to Slater about 18 years ago and was
instrumental in organizing the Slater Saving Bank, of which he was the first
president. About eight years ago he moved to Marshall for the purpose of
educating his nieces' (then Mrs. Dysart) children at Missouri Valley College.
He was a consistent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church and was a
charter member of the New Bethel church in Monroe county. He was a great many
times a delegate to Presbyter and Synod and more than once represented his!
Presbytery in the General Assembly. 1/18/1901. Parents: Joseph HOLLIDAY and Nancy R. MCCUNE.

Spouse: Jennie HARPER. William Harvey HOLLIDAY and Jennie HARPER were married in 1849 in Monroe County, Missouri.3 Reference Number:452224

From "Marty & NaLisa Brown" <[email protected]>
State of Missouri, County of Pike. Michael J. Joyes, Clerk of the County
Court within and for the county of Pike. To all who shall see these presents
--- Greeting---. Know ye that whereas William P. Holliday late of the county
aforesaid died intestate as is said and William Reading and Rebecca Holliday
having given satisfactory security and complied with other requisitions of
law, I do by these presents, give and grant unto the said William Reading and
Rebecca Holliday full power and authority to administer all and singular the
goods, chattels, rights and credits of said deceased lying and being within
the state aforesaid and to ask demand and in a legal manner to require and
receive all and all manner of debts and demands due and owing to the said
deceased and will and faithfully to dispose of the same according to law. And
lastly I do by these presents constitute and appoint the said William Reading
and Rebecca Holliday admistrator and administratorix of all and singular the
goods, chattels, rights and credits of the aforesaid William P. Holliday
deceased. Witness my hand with the seal of our said court affixed, this
twelfth day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty
two, and in the fortyseventh year of the Independence of the United States.
MJ Noyes, Clerk. Recorded this 12th September 1822.

In addition, I've found the record of where William Patton Holliday recorded
his commission as Justice of the Peace in Pike Co, MO in 1820.

In the Portrait & Biographical Record of Marion, Ralls & Pike Co, Missouri
book. I found reference to William & Rebecca Reading Holliday. It states
"William and Rebecca (Reading) Holliday (were) natives of Kentucky. They grew
to manhood and womanhood in that State, and in about 1818, after their
marriage, came with their family to Missouri, settling in Pike County. There
their seven sons and daughters grew to mature years, while the grandparents
spent the remainder of their lives in this section (Pike Co)."

Another great piece of information I've found in Pike County is a record of a
deed (1821) between William McCune, William P. Holliday, Joseph Holliday,
William Biggs and John McCune. This record lists the wives of each of the
first four gentleman:
William McCune & Elizabeth McCune
William P. Holliday & Rebecca Holliday
Joseph Holliday & Nancy Holliday
William Biggs & Betsey Biggs.
