I just came across your website on World Connect. You might be interestedin
knowing that Stephen Halstead (son of Thomas) did not marry AmeliaLawrence
but Parmela Lawrence, the daughter of Stephen Lawrence. Stephen did have a
daughter named Amelia who married twice once to a Cummings and secondly to
Peter Vancott, she lived to be over 100 years of age. The name of Parmela
Halstead is not in doubt as she was named as a beneficiary in the will of
her father dated 3 April, 1817. In 1797 Stephen Halstead made a petition
for crown land and he indicated that he arrived in Canada with a wife and
one child which means that he was married prior to coming to Canada. Just
thought that you might be interested in these particulars.
The reason I was surfing the net was that I am trying to confirm the names
and dates etc of Martha Lawrence's parents. You indicate Jacob and Maryas
parents. I have heard this from several sources but I am having trouble
coming up with any evidence. Martha had a brother named Jacob (1731-1813)
and he married Marah Wilde, which leads to some confusion on the Lawrence
line. What is the source of your reference to Martha's parents? Would
appreciate any help you can give on this matter. Thanks
