MacDonald clan, Hugh made his way to America by way of Ireland. It is believed
that his early children were born there, coming with him and his wife, Susannah
to North Carolina around 1750. Hugh and his wife are buried in the Jersey
Baptist Church Cemetery about 10 miles east of Salisbury in Davidson Co., North
Carolina. His tombstone bears the following inscription: "Here lies the body
of Hugh McCrary deceased anno domini 1785 aged 65 years. You look on and
hereby, as you are now so once was I, as I am now so must you be, so prepare to
follow me."
