William T. Rumple's Obituary:

Wm. T. Rumple
Aged Veteran and Respected Resident of Blackcreek Dies Suddenly

Wm. Rumple, aged 73, a well known and respected resident of Blackcreek
Township died of heart failure at his home about 10 o'clock Friday night December 6, 1912. He had been in declining health, but that his end was so near was unthought of. He leaves a widow and six children, besides many relatives and friends to mourn his going.
William T. Rumple, son of Daniel and Sarah E. Rumple, was born in Carroll County, Ohio January 18th, 1839 and departed this life at his home in Mercer County, Ohio December 6th, 1912. He with his parents moved to Crawford County, Ohio and at the age of 24, he enlisted in Company H., 123rd. Regiment Ohio Volunteers, and after serving one year and three months he was honorably discharged June 11, 1865. After returning from the Civil war he enlisted in the Army of the Lord and after 43 years of faithful service, his Captain called him home. On November 27th, 1866 he was united in marriage with Miss
Hannah Gilbert. To this union were born one son and three daughters. In 1874 this devoted wife and mother passed on before leaving him and the little ones to battle in life alone. April 11, 1877 he was united in marriage with, Miss Mary A.
Shock. God blessed this union with two sons and four daughters. The oldest daughter preceeded this father to the Better Land. He has been a member of the United Brethren Church at Fairview Class ever since the erection of the church and was held in high esteem by his brethren at the time of his death. He was the oldest member in the adult Bible Class and his seat was never vacant when health permitted.
Brother Rumple was of a kind disposition, willing to suffer wrong then do wrong himself. His class will miss him very much. They will not hear his voice in song anymore. His companion and children will no more hear his kind words and wise counsel and his neighbors will have his Godly life as an example which we trust will lead many to Christ. His home was the preacher's home. He loved to talk and counsel with his pastor about the better life. Few men in common conversation talked more about Christ and the Church than he. His treasure was in Heaven. Surely a good man has been called from the church militant to the church triumphant. His pilgrimage here was 73 years, 10 months and 18 days. He leaves a companion, three sons and six daughters, six sons in law, two daughters in law, and one stepson, his wife and four sons, 33 grand children and three great grand children and a host of friends to mourn. But we feel our loss is his eternal gain. Funeral was conducted by Rev. J. M. Sherer, assisted by Rev. S. P. Overholtz, from Fairview U B Church. Interment was made in the Riverside cemetery, Rockford, Ohio.

Card of Thanks
We wish to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy shown in the sickness and death our companion and father, Wm. Rumple. Also the choir for their singing. The Senior Bible Class of which he was a member, also the Young Men's and Young Ladies Bible Classes each for their beautiful flowers and the consoling words rendered by the pastor.
