BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION SUNDAY

COLLINS - Don't be alarmed when this small community situated on Indiana 205 between Columbia city and Churubusco goes through a tremendous population explosion beginning Sunday morning.
The Ferguson clan is coming to town to celebrate a special birthday for a special day.
Loudema Ferguson will be 100 years old Sunday and many members of the family are expected to attend and recognize the witty lady.
Mrs. Ferguson received a telegram from President Ronald Reagan earlier this month. The telegram read: "Nancy and I are delighted to send our warmest wishes on your special day and our hopes for continued joys and blessings."
After learning of the card, Mrs. Ferguson replied to her daughter Marjorie Bennett, who along with son Jessie live with their mother," That was awful nice of him. Maybe we should send him a picture of me."
She added, "I wonder who told him it was my birthday - I know I didn't."
Coming from a large family herself, in which she still has three brothers and a sister living although she is the oldest of the five, Mrs. Ferguson reared 11 children.
Start adding their children and their children and their children to the family circle and the elder Ferguson now sports 32 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren. Many plan to attend Sundays festivities.
"I had 11 children of my own and loved them all very much," Mrs. Ferguson replied. "I know the family is big now and I try to keep in touch with as many of them as I can."
calling herself an outdoor person who hates housework, Mrs. Ferguson insistes that she will celebrate her 100thbirthday by working in the family garden, picking beans and potatoes.

Life History
In 1976, Mrs. Ferguson was honored by the Old Settlers day committee as the oldest registered citizen to attend the annual summer festivities.
At that time, she was a "young" 94.
She was born iin Allen County, Ohio to Peter Shock Jr. and Malinda Shope.
On September 7, 1901 she married Bert Ferguson. The pair were married nearly 60 years until his death in 1960.
After her marriage, Mr. and MRs. Ferguson moved to Allen County and later moved to the Churubusco area in 1918.
She moved to her current residence in Collins in 1940.
During her formative years, she worked in onion and potato fields and later worked in mint fields.
Additionally, Mrs. Ferguson worked a short stint at a furniture factory in Albion and with Blue Bell in Columbia City.
All this time, she was raising sons Daniel, William, Jessie and Clifford and daughters Francis, Mary, Velma, Alta, Dolly, Chloe and Marjorie.
Sons daniel and William have died as has one daughter Mary, but the remain-
ing eight off spring stay in contact with their mother as often as possible.
Currently, all living children are residing in the area with the exception of a daughter and son who hail from Ohio.

Mary Shock lived with her three daughters after William's death.

Mary was born Lutheran, but at 14, joined United Brethren Church (Fairview
U. B. Church) (Must be where she met William).

OBITUARY
Mary A. Rumple, nee Shock, age 76 was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, August 17th 1845, and departed life at the home of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Charles Brunstetter of near Rockford Ohio June 14th 1922 aged 76 years 9 month and 27 days.
On April 11th 1877 she was united in marriage with William Rumple who with an infant daughter preceeded her in death. After the death of her husband she made her home with her three daughters, namely Mrs. Charles Brunstetter, Mrs. Clarence Brunstetter and Mrs. Charley Morrow.
Her early religious training was in the Lutheran faith, but when she was 14 years of age she was converted to God under the pastorate of Rev. William Miller, and joined the United Brethren Church, of which she was a respected member at the time of her death. She was a charter member of the Fairview U.B. Church, altho in the last few years she seldom attended services. She made earnest effort to keep her children and grandchildren in church, and as long as she had a home of her own it was a great pleasure to her to minister to the needs of God's servants. Indeed her home was the preacher's home.
While she had no special talent for singing, the one song of her life was "Rock of Ages Cleft for Me", realizing the true sentiment of this song she sang it through a few weeks before her death. During her late affliction her suffering was intense, but she bore it with patience. She was not afraid to die and was often heard to say she wanted to go to her Heavenly Home. She was tenderly cared for by her children who tried to make her last days on earth as pleasant as possible.
She leaves to mourn their loss three daughters and three sons, five grandaughters and ten grandsons; three stepdaughters and one step son; one sister, Mrs. Katheran Allen of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, William Shock of Elida Ohio and Peter Shock of Marion Michigan and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was from the Fairview Church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. M. Johnson and Rev. J. M. Sherer. The burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

Edna says she has an obituary that has Mary Ann's death as June 13, not June 14.
