Thomas Sutton was apparently deceased by Sep 1816 when his father's land
was divided. However, his three sons, James, Abraham and Thomas, settled
in Crawford Co, PA between 1797-1803. They all at first used the surname
ABBOTT, the maiden name of their mother. However, by about 1815-18, James
and Abraham had reverted to using the surname Sutton. Thomas, however,
continued to use the name Abbott until his death.
His daughter, Elizabeth married Daniel Parvin who was a well-known
patriot and prominent citizen of Cumberland Co., NJ.

Thomas Coates Sutton and his sons were Loyalists during the American
Revolution. He spent one month in prison for his loyalist affectations.
His son's brother-in-law (Abdon Abbit, Jr.) was sentenced to hang, but
the sentence was stayed by the Governor. While some of his son's property
was confiscated, that of Thomas Coates Sutton was not. His son's joined
the Loyalist forces but deserted several months later. The exact reasons
or the difficulties this proved in their lives can only be surmised.
Thomas Coates Sutton may very likely be the son of John Sutton, tailor,
of Frankford, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His will, dated 6 Jan 1722,
names Thomas and six other children, all under age 21. His wife, then
Parnella Seeds, in her will dated 5 Aug 1743, again names Thomas and four
other children. The unique name Parnella (or Parnell or Penel) is the
most important circumstantial evidence to tie Thomas C. Sutton to this
family. He had a daughter Parnell (or Penel) and at least one grand-
daughter also by that name.
A Thomas Sutton witnessed a will in Deptford, Gloucester Co., NJ in 1735. Parents: John SUTTON and Parnell.
