(NOTE: Chambersburg and Scotland are in Franklin Co., PA, which was created 1784 from Cumbe rland Co., PA.) (1i) Albert and his brother Hugh settled in the SE part of Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania , near what is known as the Conococheague Settlement, near a stream of that name.
(1b) 1751: Taxed in Cumberland Co., PA, in the area that became Franklin Co. (1i) Albert an d Hugh Torrence taxed in Hopewell and Lurgan Twp., Cumberland Co., PA.
(1d) 1758, 13 Apr: Richard Bard's place in York Co. (now Adams Co.), Pennsylvania was raided by India ns, and he was carried away into captivity. The Indians proceeded towards the mountains, whe re they picked up a child, Thomas Potter, and murdered him. After crossing the mountain, the y passed the house of Albert Torrence. Seeing him in the dorrway, they shot at him.
