Buried in Deep Springs grave yard (ex Presbyterian Church) in Monroe Twp. Carroll County, Ohio near Atwood Dam, this is on state route 542. The cemetery records report wife Ellen 1863; John 1830 ae50; John 1830 ae 26; Joseph 1830 ae?; Elizah 1843 ae/; Sarah 1850 ae 61 she is listed as wife of Joseph. I have him with wives Ellen, Sarah and Rebecca???? Note that Jacob Strawn 1865 aee 72 is also in this cemetery with an unreadable stone for Martha. Aaron Elliot and his wife are also buried here. There is also a Nicholas Van Buskirk 1829 ae?; wife Ann 1854 ae?.

A 1970 letter from Mrs. Showmaker in Indiana gave me much on the Van Buskirks, She reports that Joseph came to Tuscarawas County in 1810 along with a number of cousins. They were Presbyterians and located near what is now the Tus - Carroll County line.
The 1850 census of Monroe Township (S.W. of Carrollton and Atwood Lake covers the northern half in 1994) has Jos. Van Buskirk age 68 - Farmer worth $2,000 and born in Penna. There is S. Van Buskirk age 62, female and the birth location is hard to read - looks like NJ. There is also an 18 year old female named E. Arten and again the last name is difficult to read. This information is found on census page 36; Dwelling #468 and Family number #469. The next name in the census is William & R. Sellers. This family turns up in the old Ports photo album held by H A Heiser in 1994.

To get more information about the family on 2/24/94 I visited the WRHS and examined the book, 'Index to 1810 Census of Pennsylvania' by Ohio Family Historians. The book includes 1 Villar; 1 Viller; and 1 Villers. The details are:
Villar, Chs Philadelphia - North Mulberry Ward -- page 352
Viller, John Greene County Jefferson Township page 102 note that the Joseph Vanbuskirk family is in this same township at the same time.
Villers, C. Philadelphia County, West Northern Lib page 216.
In the book "Pennsylvania in 1800' John Villers and James Villars are in Greene County, Jefferson Township on Page 97:06.

In the 1840 census index of Ohio there is a Joseph Van Buskirk in Fairfield Township, Tuscarawas County -- there is also a Thomas Van B in the same location.
There is a good chance that Rebecca Villars was born in the early years of 1800. In the 1810 census of Greene County, Jefferson Township there is a John Villars (note the 'A') family and a Joseph Vanbuskirk family. The daughter in the Villars family is under 10 years old in 1810 and the Vanbuskirks have 3 sons under 10 and 1 son that is 10 to 16.
At Western Reserve Historical Society the book, "The 1812 Census of Ohio" by T.L.C. Genealogy lists taxpayers. There are no VanBuskirks included.

I have a note that there are VanBuskirks in Champaign County, Ill.

July, 1994 at the Library of Congress the book, "Genealogical History of Hudson & Bergen Counties, N.J." by, ? Harvey ; page 190-1 has the following - -
JACOB L. VAN BUSKIRK -- The founder of the van Buskirk family in this country was Lourens Andriessen, who, after emigrating to America, took the surname of Van Buskirk, the "Van" signifying "from" and Bos Kerch meaning "church in the woods". He was a native of the Province of Holstein, in Denmark, a tanner by trade, and came to America in 1655. Although a single man when he arrived, he set to work at his trade, which he soon abandoned for that of draper. On June 20, 1656 he bought a lot on Broad Street. Soon afterward he went to Bergen and purchased about 170 acres of land in what is now the Greenville district of Jersey City, on which he settled, and there he took the oath of allegiance to King Charles in 1665. He soon became a man of prominence, and wielded great influence in the affairs of Bergen. On September 12, 1658 he married Jannetie Jans, widow of Christiaen Barrentsen, sho brought him, as is said beside four sons by a former husband, about 1,400 florins, heavy money, and ten wampum beads for one stiver. Mr. Winfield adds: "When the country was recaptured by the Dutch and the people expected a forfeiture of the lands he and John Berry, Samual Edsall, and William Sandford appeared at Fort William Henry, August 18, 1673, to request that their plantations be confirmed in the priviledges which the obtained from their previous patroons." When a contest arose between the Town of Bergen and the inhabitants on the south of them, concerning fences and the support of a schoolmaster, he again appeared before the council to plead the cause of neighbors.
Under the act of November 7, 1668, for the marking of horses and cattle, he was appointed recorder and marker for Minkakwaa, April 6, 1670, and marker general for the Town of Bergen, October 8, 1676. On that day he was also appointed ranger for Bergen with power to name deputies to range the woods and bring in all stray horses, mules and cattle. He was commissioned a member of the Bergen court February 16, 1677,a nd February 18, 1680, and President of the same August 31, 1681, and President of the County Court August 31, 1682. He ws a member of the Govenor's Council for a number of years, appointed first march 18, 1672, and held the first commission of administer crowner's quest law in the coiunty in 1672. On january 6, 1676, jointly with the Bogerts, Bantas and others, he bought a large tract of land north and east of Hackensack, known as New Hackensack, upon which he resided as early as 1688. His issue of the second generation were four children: Andries A. (1660), Lawrens A., Peter A., and Thomas. Of these Peter and Thomas remained at Bergen, while Andries (2), who married in 1717 Jacomina Davids Demarset, and Laurens (2), who married in 1716 Hendricke Vandelinda, bought and settled on extensive tracts of land on the east side of the Saddle River.
