FINAL HONORS ARE ACCORDED Mrs Amanda Ainsworth 101 years old
Final tribute was paid to Mrs Amanda Ainsworth, 101 years old, Crawford County's oldest resident, Wednesday afternoon at Gill Cemetery at a funeral service conducted by Rev. Silas Haley, Baptist minister of the County.
Mrs. Ainsworth died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son James E. Ainsworth with whom she resided on a farm in the Catcher Community. She had not been ill. Her death was apparently the result of her advanced age She was active almost to the end of her more than a century of life.
She was the daughter of David E Boyd and Ruth Enlow Boyd some of the first settlers of Crawford County. Amanda was reared and lived and died within a radius of ten miles. Mrs. Ainsworth was typically a product of pioneer days. She was christened as she boastfully announced a year ago when she celebrated her 100 anniversary, with the longest list of names ever attached to an individual outside the bible. She was Amanda Elvina Melissa Elvira Margaret Jane Sarah Ann Susannah Boyd, before she became Mrs. Ainsworth. when asked, where the names all came from, with a chuckle she said her father gave her a name for each of the the girls he courted. She was called "Dick" or "Mandy" in the long ago time when she was a girl. Alma was her birthplace, she was born February 25, 1933. her husband died 57 years ago and she never remarried. Her descendents are three sons: William, John and "Jim" Ainsworth, a daughter Mrs. Alice Fann of Ralston, OK, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Her funeral was carried out according to Mrs. Ainsworth's own directions, neighbors were to care for the details as she had instructed, her body to be taken to the cemetery in a wagon. She had never favored automobiles for her own transportation and objected to a motor drawn vehicle for her funeral. The Ocker Funeral Home assisted in the funeral arrangements. Mrs. Amanda Boyd Rabe died Sunday at her home near Leavittsville at the
age of 82 years 5 months and 5 days. The body was brought to Carrollton
and laid to rest in the mausoleum on Tuesday, after a funeral service
conduction by Reverand Couts of Dellroy, had been held in the Methodist
church at Leavittsville. Surviving are a son Charles Rabe of Carrollton,
Mrs. Lucy Palmiter of Steubenville, Mrs. Herron of Midvale. Parents: John BOYD and Matilda MCQUEEN.
