He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Bridge House, Great Casterton, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, as Assistant to Thomas Eayrs who was a Farmer, age 26, single, birthplace Kilburn, London, and he was a 'Farm Pupil'. The household also contained Mrs Mary Eayrs, their 7 children, two other Assistants and a General Domestic Servant.9 He saw service during the Great War [WWI 1914-1918] in the Army Service Corps, Motor Transport, and The National Archives contain his British Army Medal Roll Index Card which shows he qualified for the Victory Medal, the British War Medal and the 1914 Star plus Emblems. It notes Captain C Durlacher applied for his medals on 30 January 1921, giving his address as 5 Eaton Road, Hove, Sussex, and c/o F Durlacher Esq, Pebblecombe, Walton on the Hill, Tadworth, Surrey.10,11
He married Gladys Ivy Carrion Armstrong in 1918 at Middlesex, England; and their marriage was recorded at St Giles Registration district in the June quarter 1918.12 Cyril Charles Henry Durlacher was working in the car trade after the war and it was reported in an article in the Auto-Motor Journal of 13 March 1924 by Edgar N Duffield titled '"AUTO" ROAD TRIALS. LXII.-The 15.5 H.P. Diatto' that the 2 litre Diatto was introduced to Britain by Captain Cyril Durlacher A.M.I.A.E., of 6 Upper St. Martins Lane, London, W,C.2. Duffield was test driven in the car by Cyril Durlacher and reported on his findings concluding that he considered it sound and at a price that could not be thought of as high. Made by the Soc. Anon. Auto Diatto, of Turin, Italy, the sole concessionaire was Cyril Durlacher and articles appeared in the Auto-Motor Journal to around 1929, together with photographs of the car, in some instances being driven by Cyril Durlacher. In the 10 June 1926 issue of the magazine he is advertising as selling the car at 20 Swallow Street, Piccadilly, W.1.13
He was executor of Harry Montague Durlacher (who died 20 September 1928) on 24 November 1928.14,15,16 He and Gladys Ivy Carrion Armstrong lived on 29 September 1939 at London, England; where they were on the 1939 Register in the St Marylebone area.17 Cyril Charles Henry Durlacher married Winifred Alice Rowe in 1949 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the March quarter 1949.18 Cyril Charles Henry Durlacher died in 1968 at Sussex, England; and his death was recorded at Worthing Registration district in the December quarter 1968.19

Peter Cotes's book J.P. The Man Called Mitch contains a great deal more biographical information about Ernest Samuel Halford including several letters written by him to J.P. Montpelier House was purchased with money from the Halford Trust Fund in 1937. Described as '... a most unusual building in Brecknock Road, on the borders of Kentish Town, in a densely populated working-class district ... it was 150 years old and was situated in grounds of 1¾ acres'. In 1955 JP purchased Montpelier House from the Halford Trust.16,17
He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 6 Pembridge Place, Notting Hill, London, England, as 'Son', age 38, birthplace Paddington, London, and he was a Mortgage and Insurance Broker. Nora Eileen Halford 'Grandaughter' and six servants completed the household.18 He appeared several times in from 1912-1929 in The London Gazette which published the following notices concerning H.M. Land Registry for the following large assortment of properties in which he is mentioned, sometimes with others. His address was almost always 17 Hart Street, Bloomsbury, W.C.1., and his description was O.B.E. Lieutenant Colonel (retired) in His Majesty's Royal Air Force:

Lt.-Col. Ernest Samuel Hyam O.B.E. was executor to the will of Dr Leonard Maurice Gabriel proved 26 January 1932.31
He died on 2 May 1932 at Rosemullion Hotel, Budleigh Salterton, Devon, England, at age 59; and his death was recorded at St Thomas Registration district in the June quarter 1932.32,3,33,34 He was buried at Willesden, Middlesex, England.3 '‘The Colonel left over £500,000 for J.P.[Mitchelhill] and his co-executor, Bertie F. Browne, to administer'. John Alfred Davis was born in 1863 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England; and his birth was recorded at Liverpool Registration district in the September quarter 1863.4,3 He was the son of Louis Davis and Annie Jones.2 John Alfred Davis appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 109 Bedford Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, as Son, age 7, birthplace Liverpool, Lancashire, and he was a Scholar.5 He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 109 Bedford Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, as Son, age 17, birthplace Liverpool, Lancashire, and he was an 'Apprentice Silk Mercer.6' He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 4 Livingstone Avenue, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England, as Head, single, age 27, birthplace Liverpool, Lancashire, and he was employed as a Foreman Tailor.7 He married Rose Moss in 1898 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded in the June quarter 1898 at Paddington Registration district.1,2 John Alfred Davis appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Hampstead, London, England, as Head, married, age 37, born Liverpool, and he was a Merchant Tailor.8 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 12 Goldhurst Terrace, Hampstead, London, England, as Head, age 47, married 1863, birthplace Liverpool, and he was a Merchant Tailor. The household also contained his wife, daughter, two maids and a cook.9 He was executor for his Mother and the 1911 National Probate Calandar records she was of '44 Priory-road West Hampstead Middlesex widow' and Probate was granted at London 'to John Alfred Davis tailor' on 3 July 1911.10 He and Alexander Davis were according to B. Davis 'in business' together at 49 Maddox Street, [Mayfair] London, which was 'the London address of the business run by Alexander and John. Alexander ran the Paris branch'. Listed in various Trade Directories there were several firms at this address including a military tailors for several years by the name of Samuelson & Son and also Robins & Co. who made costumes, 'Ladies' Tailor-made.11,12' John Alfred Davis died on 7 February 1929 at 4 Dorset Square, Middlesex, England; and his death was recorded at Marylebone Registration district in the March quarter 1929.2,13,14 His estate was probated on 3 May 1929; and he was of 49 Maddox Street, Middlesex.13

Armand Mancus was also known as Aaron Mancus.2,3 He was born circa 1868 at Vilna, Russia.1,4,5,3,6 He was the Son of Benjamin Mancus (age 49 in 1891, birthplace Vilna, Russia, an employer and Tailor) and Galley Mancus (age 48 in 1891, birthplace Vilna, Russia).3 He arrived with his parents and siblings in England and settled in Wolverhampton in 1889.2 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 9 Clement Street, Ladywood, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Aaron Mancus, Son, age 23, birthplace Vilna, Russia, and he was employed as a Glass Painter Artist; he was with his parents and siblings: Harry, age 20 and a Draper's Traveller, Ziliah, age 18 and a Tailoress, Eli, age 15 and a Tailor, and a Russian Boarder who was also a Tailor.3 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 55 Poplar Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, as Son, age 33, birthplace Russia, and he worked as a Tailor's Cutter. He was with his parents - Benjamin and 'Mary' - and brother Edward, age 24.7 He was naturalized and The National Archives contain the following file: 'Nationality and Naturalisation: Mancus, Armand, from Russia. Resident in Birmingham. Certificate 19103 issued 2 June 1910'. There is also similar information on Eli Asher Mancus.8,9 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Parks Farm, Evesham, Worcestershire, England, as Visitor, age 39, birthplace Russia, and he was a Tailor, visiting James Barouche another Tailor.10,2
He married Elizabeth Miriam Jones, daughter of Alexander Jones and Henrietta Myers, on 16 September 1913 at Old Hebrew Congregation, Liverpool, Lancashire, England; and their marriage, as Elizabeth M Jones and Armand Mancus, was recorded at Toxteth Park Registration district, Liverpool, in the September quarter 1913. It was also recorded in Liverpool Old Hebrew Congregation Marriage Register.1,11,12,13,14 Armand Mancus was a merchant tailor. He married Annie Maud Calland on 9 November 1901 at St Peter, Birkdale, Lancashire, England; and their marriage was recorded and indexed as John James Philbrook and Annie Maud Calland at Ormskirk Registration district in the December quarter 1901. Her Father was Henry Calland, Cabdriver and his Father, Edward Philbrock was a Carter. He was a Tailor, age 27 and she was a Spinster age 20.4,9,10 John James Philbrock lived between 3 August 1902 and 4 April 1909 at 12 Grasmere Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England; when all four of his children were Baptised and he was recorded as a Tailor.11 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 12 Grasmere Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England, as Head, married, age 36, birthplace Bootle, Lancashire, and he worked as a Ladies Tailor. His Wife, four children and their Lodger another Ladies Tailor 41 years old and married, completed the household.12 He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Bolton, Lancashire, England, as born at Bolton, Lancashire, in 1875.13 He and Annie Maud Calland lived on 29 September 1939 at Kay Street, Bolton, Lancashire, England; where they were on the 1939 Register and he was a Ladies Tailor.6 John James Philbrock died in 1947 at Lancashire, England; and his death was recorded and indexed as John J Philbrook/Philbrock at Bolton South Sub-Registration district in the December quarter 1947, age 73.14,15
