     Charles Joseph Butler was born in 1898 at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and his birth was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the March quarter 1898.^1,2 He was the son of Charles Butler and Sarah Ann Fisher.¹ Charles Joseph Butler appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Faulkland Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, as Son, age 3, birthplace Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.¹ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 5 Albion Place, St Johns Lane, Clerkenwell, London, England, as Charles Butler, Grandson, age 13, birthplace Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, and he was a School Boy.³

     Alice Turner was born circa 1888 at St Pancras, London, England.¹ She was the daughter of George Turner and Alice Brandon.¹ Alice Turner appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Tottenham, Middlesex, England, as daughter, age 3, birthplace St Pancras, London.¹ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Edmonton, Middlesex, England, as daughter, age 13, birthplace Clerkenwell, London.²

     David John Mataragas was born on 12 April 1949 at Hampshire, England; and his birth was recorded at Winchester Registration district in the June quarter 1949.^1,2 He was the son of Vera Daphne Jenvey.¹ David John Mataragas died in 1996 at Hampshire, England; and his death was recorded at Southampton Registration district in March 1996.²

      Her married name was Marshall.² Phyllis May Coadwell was born on 11 December 1915; and her birth was recorded at Richmond record office in the March quarter 1916.^1,3 She was the daughter of William John Coadwell and Rose May Daborn.¹ Phyllis May Coadwell married James Marshall in 1950 at Hertfordshire, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hitchin registration office in the June quarter 1950.²

     Albert William Martin was born on 20 August 1916 at Surrey, England; and his birth was recorded at Chertsey record office in the September quarter 1916.^1,2 He was the son of Albert Edward Martin and Florence Eleanor Kate Daborn.¹ Albert William Martin died in May 1995 at Surrey, England, at age 78; and his death was recorded at Surrey North-Western registration office in May 1995.²

      Her married name was Low.¹ Annie S Lewis was born on 28 March 1891.² She married John Henry Alexander Low, son of Henry Alfred Low and Emma Mary Watts, in 1915 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Fulham record office in the December quarter 1915.¹

     Ellis James Castello M.C., T.D. was born on 20 September 1897 at London, England; and his birth was recorded in the September quarter 1897 at Paddington Registration district.^5,6,7 He was the son of James Castello (1863-1928) and Edith Sarah Franklin (1866-1907).¹ He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 46 Queens Gardens, Paddington, London, England, as Son, age 3, born Paddington, London.⁸ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 23 Oxford Square, Hyde Park, London, England, as Son, age 13, birthplace Paddington, and he was at School.⁹

He was educated; 'at Clifton and Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Served in both World Wars'.¹

He was awarded medal(s) for service in the Army during the Great War [WWI] and The National Archives contain the following World War I Campaign Medal Card:

He appeared in The London Gazette Issue 30901 published on the 13 September 1918' which recorded the following Military Cross citation:     
     
     '2nd Lt. Ellis James Castello, R.F.A.
     For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. With the enemy at close quarters on his flank and in rear, he worked all day in the open on communications under constant machine-gun and rifle fire. He restored and maintained communications that were frequently broken, and when the enemy was around the battery positions his energy and fearlessness inspired all ranks.^11,12'

He was a Chartered Accountant after 1925.¹ He was executor of his father's will, which was proved on 1st September 1928. The following notice appeared in The London Gazette Issue 33425 published on the 28 September 1928:

     'Re JAMES CASTELLO, Deceased.
     Pursuant to the Trustee Act, 1925.
     NOTICE is hereby given, that all creditors and other persons having any debts, claims or demands against the estate of James Castello, late of 23, Oxford-square, Hyde Park, in the county of London, Esquire, deceased (who died on the 18th day of July 1928, and whose will was proved in the Principal Probate Registry on the first day of September, 1928, by Sarah Castello, Ellis James Castello and Leon Benham Castello, the executors therein named), are .hereby required to send in the particulars of their debts, claims or demands to us, the undersigned, the Solicitors for the said executors, on or before the 30th day of November, 1928, after which date the said executors will proceed to distribute the assets of the said deceased amongst the persons entitled thereto, haying (regard only to the claims and demands of which they shall then have had notice; and they will not be liable for the assets of the said deceased, or any part thereof, so distributed, to any person or persons of whose debts, claims or demands they shall not then have had notice.— Dated this 24th day of September, 1928.

Cohen, of 71, Portland-place, W.1.¹⁴' Ellis James Castello M.C., T.D. married Elizabeth Marjorie Cohen, daughter of George Alfred Cohen and Gertrude Hannah Myer, on 5 June 1930 at Central Synagogue, Great Portland Street, Westminster, London, England; and their marriage was recorded in the June quarter 1930 at London City Registration district.^{15,1,16,17,18}

Ellis James Castello M.C., T.D. has a Special Operations Executive personnel file held at The National Archives from his service during the Second World War 'with photograph.¹⁹' He was executor to his stepmother Sarah Franklin and the 1947 National Probate Calendar records that Sarah Castello was 'of The House in the Field Wendover Buckinghamshire widow' and Probate was granted on 23 January 1947 in London 'to Ellis James Castello M.C. major H.M. army and Iris Sarah Langdon (wife of Geoffrey Harry Langdon)'.²⁰

He was listed after World War II in The London Gazette Issue 38105 published on the 21 October 1947 as follows:

He and Elizabeth Marjorie Cohen lived between 31 December 1952 and 20 March 1953 at Bucklebury, Berkshire, England; at the time of their daughters Diana and Susans' engagements and marriages.²³ Ellis James Castello M.C., T.D. died on 29 April 1983 at Berkshire, England, at age 85; and his death was recorded in the June quarter 1983 at Reading/Wokingham Registration district.^24,25 He was the subject of an obituary in The Times: 'Castello - On 29 April, 1983 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Major Ellis James Castello (retired) M.C., T.D., aged 85, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) and much loved grandfather. Funeral private'. on 30 April 1983.²⁶ He was cremated at Hoop Lane Crematorium, Golders Green, London, England.^25,26
