He was a 24 year old Bachelor, Clerk, son of John Charles, Waggitt, Tea Inspector. She was a 21 year old Spinster, daughter of Thomas Philbrook, Farmer. The address given was 11 King Edward's Parade, Norbury, S.W.1,5 John Charles Waggitt appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 3 Idmiston Road, West Norwood, London, England, as Son, married, age 25, birthplace West Dulwich, Surrey, and he was a Solicitor's Clerk, working in the Legal industry. His new wife does not appear on the schedule, but his parents, siblings and neices do.6 He and Rose Florence Philbrook were recorded on a Passenger List of those leaving Liverpool, England, for Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on the Virginian arriving on 6 May 1911.7,8 John Charles Waggitt served with the Canadian Army Service Corps in the Great War [WWI] and appeared on the British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards for the award of the Meritorious Service Medal (France), Regimental number 30259 between 1914 and 1918.9 He appeared on the census of 1921 at 61 Argyle Avenue, Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, as Son-in-law of Thomas Philbrook, age 34, birthplace England, year of immigration 1911, and he was an Electrician.10 He and he was the Informant of the death of his Father-in-law and was recorded as John C. My great Aunt and uncle were wonderful people and I can only remember certain memories although my mother Robina Collinson nee Waggitt (Herbert Waggitt’s daughter) loved them both dearly. You see my mother was a war bride and we often went to visit them. My most favourite memory of Aunt Rose is of her big metal tin of buttons and she used to let me take them all out on the floor and play with them. My mother was horrified at the mess I was making! Aunt Rose had a perfect house (they had no children) but she didn’t mind the mess at all. There was myself and two sisters who went to visit. I will ask them if they have any other memories to share with you. This might sound silly but her house smelled of roses. And Uncle John looked just like his brother my grandfather, who of course was still in England.' He was her 'Uncle Chas.13'
