     Arthur Frederick Ramsey was born on 27 November 1890 at Billericay, Essex, England; and his birth was recorded at Billericay Registration district in the March quarter 1891.2,3 He was the son of Frederick Arthur Ramsey and Ada Mary Wheeler.1 Arthur Frederick Ramsey appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at High Street, Great Burstead, Essex, England, as Son, age 4 months, birthplace Billericay, Essex.1 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at High Street, Great Burstead, Essex, England, as Son, age 10, birthplace Billericay, Essex.4 He was baptized on 24 May 1910 at St Mary Magdalen (Later Emmanuel), Billericay, Essex, England.3 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Burwood Park, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England, as Under Butler, single, age 20, birthplace Billericay, Essex.5

He signed an Army Reserve Special Reservists Three Years' Service Attestation Form, as age 23 years 10 months, trade or calling footman, to join the British Army during World War 1 joining at Winchester. His parents and sister Nellie Frances were living at High Street, Billericay, Essex, and he was unmarried on 1 September 1914.6 He died on 15 September 1916 at Somme, France, at age 25; during the Great War and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission provide the following information: 'RAMSEY, A F. Rank:Rifleman. Service No:B/1788. Date of Death:15/09/1916. Regiment/Service:Rifle Brigade 9th Bn. Grave Reference: VII. E. 5. Cemetery:Guards' Cemetery, Lesboeufs'. Plus historical information: 'Lesboeufs was attacked by the Guards Division on 15 September 1916 and captured by them on the 25th. It was lost on 24 March 1918 during the great German offensive, after a stubborn resistance by part of the 63rd Bn. Machine Gun Corps, and recaptured on 29 August by the 10th Bn. South Wales Borderers. At the time of the Armistice, the cemetery consisted of only 40 graves (now Plot I), mainly those of officers and men of the 2nd Grenadier Guards who died on 25 September 1916, but it was very greatly increased when graves were brought in from the battlefields and small cemeteries round Lesboeufs. There are now 3,137 casualties of the First World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. 1,644 of the burials are unidentified but there are special memorials to 83 soldiers known or believed to be buried among them...'.

His family were sent his 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, plus his Identity disc.7,6,8,9,10 He was commemorated at Billericay War Memorial, High Street, Essex, England.11,12
