      Cdr. Ronald Langton Jones D.S.O., R.N. was also known as Ronald Langton-Jones.5 His estate was probated.6 He was born on 22 October 1884 at Bloomsbury, London, England; and his birth was registered in the December quarter 1884 at St Giles Registration district.7,1,2,8 He was the son of George Horatio Jones and Louisa Blanche Lucas.2 Cdr. Ronald Langton Jones D.S.O., R.N. appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 57 Great Russell Street, Bloomsbury, London, England, as Son, age 6, birthplace London.2 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1901 at 5 Addison Road North, Kensington, London, England, as Son, age 16, birthplace Bloomsbury (St George), London, and he was 'Civil Servant - Student'.7

He received his Certificate of Competency as a Master of a Foreign-going Ship in the Merchant Service by Order of the Board of Trade on 16 March 1912 at London, England.9 He saw service in the Great War (WWI) as The King's College London, Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives contains the following holdings 'HAMILTON: 7/7/1-49 Papers relating to Hamilton's despatches from Gallipoli, and to recommendations for decorations for service on Gallipoli, 1915-1923', which includes the following: 'HAMILTON: 7/7/8 1915 Jul 3-1916 Dec 28. Correspondence with relatives and friends of officers of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, seeking Hamilton's help in gaining decorations or mentions in despatches for distinguished service rendered on Gallipoli, including correspondence relating to the cases ... Lt Ronald Langton-Jones RN.....' His Royal Navy career can be traced in the London Gazettee where his honours are listed including the D.S.O. and the rank of Lieut. Cdr. between 3 July 1915 and 28 December 1916.10,11 He was recorded as a Cabin Class UK Incoming Passenger on the Cunard White Star Line's Ausonia having embarked at Monteal, Canada, and disembarked at Plymouth, England, as a 51 year old Naval Office, giving his UK address as The Army and Navy Club, Pall Mall, London on 9 August 1936.12 He was listed on a Database of World War II Medals issued to Merchant Seamen, now held by The National Archives for his service in World War II between 1939 and 1945.13 He was executor to his Brother and The 1943 National Probate Calendar records he was of 'Brambles Bolham Tiverton Devonshire died 9 October 1943 at The Hospital Tiverton Probate Exeter 21 October to Robert Langton-Jones retired commander R.N.14' He was the author of Silent Sentinels: a History of First Hundred years of the Bahamas Imperial Lighthouse Service [The Story of the Imperial Lighthouse Service. With Plates Including a Portrait, and an Endpaper Map], which was reviewed in the publication America with the following comments: 'Professing to tell the story of the Imperial Lighthouse Service in the Bahamas of which Commander Langton-Jones has for over ten years been the Inspector it becomes actually a history of the lighthouse down the ages...'. 'Commander Ronald Langton-Jones is a son of Stonyhurst whose adventures have included Gallipoli, Jutland, bouts with Chinese pirates and practically all ...'. The book had a 'preface by H.R.H. the Duke of Windsor and an epilogue by H.E. the Hon. Sir Bede Cliffore' in 1944.15,16,17,18,19,20,21 He was ended his term as resident Inspector for the Imperial Lighthouse Service in 1949 at Bahamas.22 He was recorded as a First Class UK Incoming Passenger on the Cunard White Star Limited's R.M.S.Queen Mary having embarked at New York, USA, and disembarked at Southampton, England, as a 64 year old retiree, again giving his UK address as The Army and Navy Club, Pall Mall, London, his last country of residence was Bahamas, B.W.I., and his country of permanent future residence was England on 2 August 1949.23 He and Hon Annie Forrestdale Dowie Weir were engaged on 1 October 1949; and an announcement was published in The Times.24 Cdr. Ronald Langton Jones D.S.O., R.N. married Hon Annie Forrestdale Dowie Weir, daughter of Andrew Weir 1st Baron Inverforth and Tomania Anne Dowie, on 11 October 1949 at Brompton Oratory, London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Kensington Registration district in the December quarter 1949.25,26,27

Cdr. Ronald Langton Jones D.S.O., R.N. died on 9 January 1967 at Dun-Na-Mara, Ledaig, Argyllshire, Scotland, at age 82; and an Obituary was published in The Times the next day as Commander Ronald Langton-Jones, DSO, Navy; the National Archives contain a docment relating to Death Duties.5,22,28,29 He was referred to by Deborah Colville: ‘From Aerodiphros to Painless Dentistry: Bloomsbury’s Notable Inventors’ as follows: '...I’ve also been able to establish that another son, listed in the 1891 census Ronald Langton Jones (b. 1884), transformed himself into the distinguished sailor Ronald Langton–Jones, DSO, Battle of Jutland, subsequently Inspector of Lighthouses in the Bahamas! He married the eldest daughter of the Rt Hon. Lord Inverforth, and became quite a prominent public figure, but again his obituary (The Times, 10 January 1967) does not say anything of his origins...30' He was the subject of an obituary in The Catholic Herald: 'Cdr. Ronald Langton-Jones. who was Beachmaster at Gallipoli and was mentioned in both Army and Navy dispatches and awarded the D.S.O.. has died aged 52 at his home near runnel. Argyll. From 1929 to 1949 he was Inspector of the Imperial Lighthouse Service in the Bahamas. and his book "Silent &minds," published in 1944, had a foreword by the Duke of Windsor. Cdr. LangtonJones, who was educated at Stonyhurst, was made Knight Commander of St. Gregory the Great in 1949.' on 13 January 1967.31 He was commemorated with a Memorial Service and Requiem Mass at The Chapel of the Knights of Saint Gregory, Westminster Cathedral, London on 19 January 1967.32,3 His estate was probated on 2 June 1967; and Probate was granted at London Registry to his sister 'Dora Mary Georgina Blanche Jones spinster Kenneth Sanderson company director and Graham Arthur Champney Hunt solicitor.6'
