She was the daughter of Hugh Bowie and Helen Mcilfrish.^1,2,3 Elizabeth Bowie appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Market Cross, Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland, as age 80, born in the County and she was an Underkeeper at the Palace [of Linlithgow]. She may have later recommended Helen Bowie [#349], for the job, as it appears to have been passed on to her Niece.⁴

'Other family members' in the household were Isabella and Mary Bowie, plus John Armstrong. His son Robert's family appeared on the same page of the census.⁷
