Broadmoor, Berkshire, England

Broadmoor houses one of the three English hospitals for the Criminally Insane. Its alarm to warn of an escapee was tested on a Monday morning and could be heard for a10 mile radius. Pevsner writes that it was from an original plan by Major-General Joshua Jebb and was opened in 1863. Built of brick with 'small arched windows. The high walls go without saying.'
