'Woodham Mortimer or Little Woodham, lies 3 miles from the Maldon railway station, in the union of that town, Rochester diocese, Essex archdeaconry, and Maldon deanery and county court district, from 2-3 miles west-south-west, and in Dengie hundred, South Essex, 7 miles east of Chelmsford, and the Eastern Counties railway. The parish extends to the estuary of the Blackwater, and contains 1,380 acres, its population in 1861 was 336. The church of St. Margaret is a neat building, with a school attached. The living is a rectory, valued at £352, with residence in the gift of G. Round Esq.; the Rev. Robert Price Morrell, M.A., of Magdalen College, Oxford, is the incumbent.
