Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Burnaby, British Columbia, population 200,000, is a city in Metro Vancouver, situated immediately to the east of Vancouver City, on the south shore of Burrard Inlet. The earliest European settlers began arriving in the late 1850's, but growth was slow until the Canadian Pacific Railway was extended to Vancouver in 1887. Agriculture and fishing were the most important industries at the time. Named for Robert Burnaby, a local businessman, who later served in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Burnaby is the home to Simon Frazer University, located on the top of Burnaby Mountain.
