Elkhorn, Manitoba, Canada

Elkhorn, Manitoba, population 460, is a village in the south western area of the province, 105 km west of Brandon. Its name was adopted when a railway worker found a very large elk horn in the area. Settlers from well-established towns in Ontario and Britain arrived soon after the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the village in 1882. Located just east of the Saskatchewan border, Elkhorn is a local service centre for the surrounding agricultural area.
