Macdonald, Manitoba, Canada

Macdonald, Manitoba, population 5200, is a rural municipality south west of Winnipeg. Named for Sir John A MacDonald, the first Prime Minister of Canada, in 1881, it was originally inhabited by the Cree, Ojibway, Assiniboine, and Saulteaux First Nations. European settlers arrived shortly after the Canadian Pacific Railway began laying tracks through the area in 1882. Macdonald's economy focuses on agriculture, wood processing, and building supply products.
