Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada

Selkirk, Manitoba, population 19,000, is a city in Manitoba, 22 km northeast of Winnipeg. Known as the "Catfish Capitol of the World", due to the trophy-sized catfish found in the nearby Red River, it was named in honour of Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, who obtained the grant to establish a colony in the area, on land purchased from the Hudson's Bay Company. The first European settlers arrived in 1813, and the town was incorporated in 1882. Selkirk is the site of a Canadian Coast Guard Base, as well as of the Marine Museum of Manitoba.
