Sophrona Maddox
1838 ~ 1912

Sophrona Delphina Maddox was born in Bracken Co., KY.  She had just a beautiful lyrical name.  I wonder if her mother gave her a German name.

She was in the 1850 census of Bracken Co. with her parents and siblings, age 12.

On December 18, 1854, she married Larkin Garnett Humble there in Bracken Co.  They were married by James W. Kendall, minister of the M.E.. Church South  ~ the local Methodist Church.

In 1855, Augustus Sherwood was born, Mary Irene c. 1857, Harkatena in 1859, Emma Elva in 1861, Lucinda in 1862, and Adalaid L. in 1864.

She and her husband seem to have moved to Harrison Co., KY, in 1866, but did not stay long.  Edward Foster Robert was born there.  I'm not sure how many of the other children were born there.

They moved on to Coles (later Douglas) Co., IL, in 1868, where her father and several younger siblings had moved to in the mid-1850s.   Sophrona was in the 1880 census of Comargo Twp, Douglas Co, IL. with her large family.  William, who would have been 8, had died.

They moved on to Vermillion Co., IL, soon thereafter, but then returned to Douglas Co. by 1882.  Seven years later her husband died.  She died at her home in Decatur in 1912, and her obituary was carried in the
Tuscola Harold.
