Herbert was the lay abbot of the Abbey of St. Maurice in Valais. His sister Teutberga married Lothair II who wanted to obtain a divorce from Teutberga as he was in love with Waldrada and wanted to put Teutberga away. Herbert took up arms on her behalf.

Boso was comte d'Avignon et Vaisin 911-931 and comte d'Arles 926-931 He was installed by his brother as the Marchese di Toscana in 931 and he rebelled against his brother in 936 was captured and deposed. Willa was sent to Burgundy after Boso was deposed in 936 and because of this she is thought to be the daughter of Rudolf I, King of Burgundy and his wife Willa, however, no other evidence to link her to Burgundy is available.
