m. MARIE MADELEINE BOUCHARD (bpt. 31 May 1665 Chateau Richer, Quebec, m.1. c.1679 Pierre Dancosse (bur. 3 Aug. 1697 Quebec), bur. 22 Nov. 1755 Riviere Ouelle)
There is a marriage contract by notary Roger dated 22 Sept. 1699 for Francois de Serre and Marie Madeleine Bouchard, however, Tanguay noted that "le marraige n'a pa eu lieu"... the marriage never took place. This, of course, is according to Tanguay and no reference has been found. Marie Anne's baptismal record simply states she is the "fille de ( ) de serre & de Marie Madeleinne Bouchard veuve de feu Pierre Dancosse...". Usually if a child is illegitimate the record will say so (fille naturelle). Perhaps Father Bernard left it this way because Marie and Francois were engaged? It is interesting that only her father's surname is given and not his first name. What happened to Francois? He seems to disappear from the records. One has to wonder if he may have died or left the Province after the engagement and prior to the marriage, if so, why didn't Marie Anne's baptismal record state that? Hmmmm.... another genealogical mystery.
