| Jemima's tombstone at Majorville Cemetery bears a death date of January 26, 1899. All of the papers associated with her estate, however, show that she died in her home in Hancock County "on or about" January 27, 1899, without leaving a will. In addition to her land, personal effects and savings account, a subsequent document (dated November 27, 1901) indicates the inclusion of $300.00 from the estate of Jemima's blind brother, Henry. This was "Uncle Henry's money", the funds which had been the source of spirited interest and speculation in the Barb family. |
