John McGinley Glass, son of Samuel Glass and Rachel Marshall, was born February 25, 1840, in Township 6 North, 5 West, Hancock County, Illinois.  When John was 10 years old, the area would be named Fountain Green Township.

John died on May 8, 1860, as the result of an accident according to the mortality schedule accompanying the 1860 Federal Census of Fountain Green Township.

He was the first member of the Glass family to be buried at Fountain Green Cemetery.  Tragically, four more would soon follow.
