Thanks to Lois Conn Shelley for sharing Conn family information.

[continued] Mertie has lived her entire life in this immediate vicinity where she has numbered her friends by her acquaintances.

She has been afflicted and a great sufferer since eleven years of age.  She bore it all with great fortitude, always meeting her friends with a pleasant smile and a cherry word.  Knowing that her days were numbered she assured her friends that "All was well with her."  Her loss in her home is irreparable and indeed is felt strongly by her entire community, also in the Sunday-school where she was a regular attendent when health permitted.

Funeral was held Thursday afternoon Feb. 20, 1913 at Majorville, Rev. M. L. O'Harra, pastor of the Methodist church of Carthage officiating.  The song service was rendered by the M. E. choir of Colchester composed of Era Neece, Bess Neece, Earl Terrill and Frank Williams with Miss Musson as organist.

The beautiful casket was covered with lovely flowers as a token of love and sympathy by relatives and friends.

Interment in Majorville cemetery where the dear one sleeps, free from any further earthly sufferings.  The large and sorrowful procession of friends that followed her to the grave plainly speak the love and esteem she has of all her relatives and friends.

Mertie had gone to Rochester for medical assistance, came down with an unrelated illness and died. The affliction mentioned in the obituary was a stiff hip which crippled her.
