LAWRENCE YETTER DAY 1893-1949
MABEL HORTENSE DAY (nee PECK) 1896-1979

Lawrence Day, Of Majorville Dies

Following an illness of four months duration, Lawrence Day, a life-long resident of Majorville, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Feb. 10, 1949, at the age of 56 years.

Lawrence Yetter Day was the youngest child of William and Ella Yetter Day and was born in Hancock township Jan. 25, 1893.  He grew up in the Majorville community and attended the church and Walnut district school, later taking up farming.  After his marriage to Mabel Peck Jan. 25, 1917, he purchased the present home, which they have occupied for 31 years, sharing each other's joys ond [sic] sorrows.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, daughter, Twila Yard, of the home community, and a son, John Edward, at home, and two grandchildren, Phyllis Ann Yard and John Edward Day, Jr., an uncle, Morris Yetter, of near Fountain Green, also survives.  There are nieces, nephews and many cousins to mourn his passing.  Of his immediate family preceding him were father and mother, sisters, Mrs. Mabel Campbell, Mrs. Rubie Hobart and brothers, James and Charles Day.

Lawrence was a good neighbor and faithful friend who will be greatly missed in his home and community.  As he is laid to rest near those who held him dear, may all that was best in his life remain in our memories as the years come and go.

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God had not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

God has promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way;
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

Services were held at the Majorville church Sunday, Feb. 13, at 2:30 p. m., with Rev. Keith Loveless of Petersburg, Ill., delivering the sermon.  H. K. Hulson was soloist and Mrs. Hulson accompanist.  Interment was in Majorville cemetery.  Casket bearers were Charles Conn, Frank Peck, Guy Garrison, John Ringo, Charlie Peck and Gilbert Keithley.

Lawrence "Jake" Day was later reburied at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Colchester, McDonough County.

Mabel Hortense Peck, daughter of Joseph Edgar Peck and Lois Kious, was born April 5, 1896, in Hancock Township, Hancock County.  She married Guy D. Garrison (1888-1974) on January 15, 1963.  Mabel died in 1979 and was interred at Mt. Auburn Cemetery next to Lawrence.
