SARAH JANE BARB Dau. of: James Barb Jemima Elizabeth Baker b: Feb 20, 1853 Barbour Co, VA m: Oct 20, 1867 Hancock Co, IL d: Apr 20, 1918 Speed, Phillips Co, KS burial: Marvin Cemetery, Glade, KS
Oh my, oh my, oh my. What stories we could set straight, what mysteries we could unravel, if only the 1890 Federal Census had not been almost totally lost to fire. What we do know from the 1895 Kansas State Census is that C.Z. was farming in Rushville Township. In that era farm wives did not rush into town to have their babies. Eva's obituary reported she was born at Glade but there's no evidence that C.Z. and Sarah Jane ever lived in Glade or even Solomon Township. It's most likely that the youngest Parker children were born on the family farm in Rushville Township.

Harley and Clara had one daughter, Velma I., 1905-1972. She was apparently raised by her paternal grandparents. Follow the link to George and Emaline, above. Find A Grave On January 1, 1907, Harley married Esther Sophia Gingles, daughter of Danford R. and Elenore Gingles. One son, Olin or Olyn D. Parker. Found in early census records with the spelling Calhoun, Calhoon is the surname on both of Harley's marriage licenses, his Selective Service registration form and on his tombstone. Jessie Rebecca Parker b: Nov 08, 1889 Phillips Co, KS d: Oct 24, 1967 Lawndale, CA burial: Pacific Crest Cemetery, Redondo Beach, Los Angeles Co, CA Spouse 1: Francis Marion Bevans
Spouse 2: Elmer Ray Haney
|
The only original document found thus far containing Jessie's middle name is the Selective Service registration of Francis Bevans. He spelled it Rebecka, but then he also spelled her given name as Jesse. While it is not proof of the correct spelling of Jessie's middle name, she was surely named for her paternal grandmother, whose name was pretty consistently spelled Rebecca from cradle to grave. When Elmer Haney registered for Selective Service in 1918, his date of birth was reported at September 14, 1883. Social Security records indicate September 14, 1882. |
