Lorenzo Dow Beckwith, born in New York to Elisha Beckwith and Mary Walker, was the seventh of out the eight known Beckwith children who lived at one time or another in Hancock County, Illinois.

Census records suggest that Lorenzo and his wife, the former Adelia Lee, were residents of Fountain Green Township between 1860 and 1870 at a minimum.  Their two eldest children died in the fall of 1858 and their third child died late in 1860.  All were buried at Hadley Cemetery in Fountain Green Township.  A fourth child was born about 1867.  By 1880 Lorenzo had moved his family to Canton, Missouri.

A brief notice regarding Lorenzo's death and a lengthier obituary for Adelia are the only surviving indications that their mortal remains were laid to rest at Webster Cemetery.
