William Courtney Emmings was born in 1870 in Hancock County, Illinois, probably in Pilot Grove Township. He was the son of George E. Emmings and Barbara Duffie. By 1880, a widower, George had remarried and established his family in Fountain Green Township, where Court Emmings would spend much of the rest of his life.
From a news item published August 27, 1890: Court Emmons, who has been in Kansas for near two years, called on his sister, Mrs. Frank Bainter, Saturday. About 1891 Court married Alice E. Simmons, daughter of John A. Simmons and Harriett E. Lincoln. Alice was born in 1875, probably in Fountain Green Township. Court and Alice's sons were:
Alice lost her life on March 14, 1918. She died at Macomb, McDonough County. While we have not learned the cause of her death, any death occurring in 1918 is suspect for the virulent influenza epidemic. Court remained in Fountain Green Township with his boys, both of whom brought their wives to live in the Emmings home for varying periods. He died in 1954. Both Alice and Court were buried at Webster Cemetery in Fountain Green Township. |
