WEBSTER CEMETERY HANCOCK COUNTY, ILLINOIS |
FRANK HOBART 1876-1949 HALA MOSLEY
|
Funeral rites were held on Sunday afternoon in the Fountain Green Presbyterian church, with interment in Webster cemetery for a well-known Hancock countyan, Frank Hobert of Carthage. He died at 530 a. m. on Friday, December 16, 1949 in Graham hospital in Keokuk, Iowa after a rather extended illness. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Pardon Hobart, he was born at Fountain Green on April 2, 1876. He had spent virtually his entire life in this county, where he, as well as others of his family, was widely and favorably known. Surviving are four brothers and two sisters, Howard and L. S. Hobart of Carthage, Orian Hobart of Burnside, Hiram Hobart of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Frances Wright of Seattle, Washington and Mrs. Ida Mosley of Plymouth. |
Frank Hobart of Carthage passed away Friday morning, Dec. 16 at Graham hospital in Keokuk, Ia., following a long illness of diabetes, aged 73 years. He was one of nine children of the late Pardon and Florence (McCumber) Hobart, and was born in Webster, Illinois on April 2, 1876. The Hobarts were descended from good pioneer families and were well respected Hancock county residents. He is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Ida M. Mosley, Plymouth; Leland S. Hobart and Howard Hobart, Carthage; Orin L. Hobart, Burnside; Mrs. Frances Wright, Seattle, Washington; Hiram Hobart, Denver, Colorado. One brother, William C. Hobart, was killed in a California mine boiler explosion in 1898. A sister, Anna Ruth Rings passed away near Webster, in 1923. Frank received his education in the elementary schools at Webster and at an early age took up farming; spending many of the summer months and fall farming seasons in Woodford county, near El Paso, Illinois. He was never married but got much enjoyment from his association with his brother Howard's children and grandchildren, perhaps his grand-nephew, Donnie Hobart, being his favorite. He was a staunch supporter of the Republican party and was an active member and trustee of the Modern Woodman of America lodge. He also served as assessor and tax collector in Fountain Green township. Frank was a big strong man when he suffered a paralytic stroke in 1923. He never regained his health from that time. However, he continued to live alone in his own home in Fountain Green until he was unable to care for himself and in June, 1947, he went to Carthage to live in his brother Howard's home. Here his niece, Mrs. Marilyn Steinmetz, and the other members of the family, gave him tender care and the most careful treatment, but his health continued to fail and he was finally taken to Keokuk where one of his feet was amputated and he was forced to spend nearly eight months in 1949 in Keokuk hospitals. Frank will be remembered as being especially strong in his likes and dislikes; always ready to take his "stand" either definitely for or against anything or anybody. He was strictly honest and dependable. He had a very unusual memory for dates, figures and facts of local interest. He had a hobby for flowers of all kinds; even artificial ones and at his home in Fountain Green he especially enjoyed his own abundance of roses. Interment was in Webster cemetery. |
