An obituary for Sarah Bell McElvain (born April 05, 1795, in Culpeper County, Virginia), contributed by Pat McElvain, is available on the website of Steve Keller. See:
Kellar-Morrison-Harmon-Dixon-Hawkins-Smith-Younkin-Russell Families Sarah's obituary stated that the family moved from Iowa to Vigo County, Indiana, in 1839, but they were counted in the 1840 Federal Census in Van Buren County, Iowa Territory. It would be interesting to know what motivated the moves Jeremiah and Sarah made as a married couple: from Ohio to Michigan to Iowa to Indiana. At a time when westward migration was commonplace, theirs was an unusual peregrination. For all the details in Sarah's obituary, it's unfortunate that it did not report each of her children, both the living and the dead. We are most interested in those who resided in Hancock County at one time or another.
