LILLIE DORCAS MOSLEY (nee LONG) 1887-1964

A photograph of the Mosley-Long tombstone.

An early portrait of Earl and Dorcas.
Earl K. Mosley was the son of Simeon A. Mosley and Sarah M. Curry (also found as Kurry).  Earl's grandparents, Armstead Mosley and Nancy Ryan Driskell, were well known early pioneers in Hancock County.  Earl was probably born in Hancock Township.  He was raised there and as a young man, hired out to do farm labor.

Lillie Dorcas Long, daughter of John W. Long and Lucena Beckwith, was also native Illinoisan with deep roots.  Her maternal grandparents arrived in Hancock County the early 1840's.

Earl's elder brother, Burns, married Dorcas' elder sister, Lutie, in 1902.  Earl and Dorcas were married on February 9, 1911, at Carthage, Hancock County.

Shortly thereafter, Earl and Dorcas moved to Fort Madison, Iowa.  When Earl registered for Selective Service in 1918 and also at the time of the 1920 Federal Census, he was employed as a fireman by A.T. & S.F. Railroad.  In 1930 he was a guard at the State Prison in Fort Madison.

Earl and Dorcas had one son:

i. Marion K. Mosley, born September 14, 1915, Fort Madison, Iowa.  He married Mary Esther Stewart on July 5, 1938, at Kahokia, Clark County, Missouri.
