In 1826 he moved with his parents to Morgan Co., Ill. In 1832 he came to McDonough county; the same year moving to Hancock Co., where he has since resided. He was married to Elizabeth Butler, March 7th, 1846. He leaves, besides his loved companion, two brothers and three sisters, viz: Byron, of Rolla, Mo., Madison, of Los Angelos, Cal.; Mrs. Annie Doolittle, of Niota, Ill.; Mrs. L. E. Campbell, Albuquerque, Few Mexico; and Mrs. E. E. Cox, of this place. He suffered great pain during the last weeks of his illness, but being of a cheerful disposition he exhibited great christian fortitude, and died praising God and thanking Him that it was no worse. Mr. Welch was a kind neighbor, and honored citizen and a loving husband. The funeral was held on Monday at 3 p. m., after which the body was laid in the Wildwood cemetery, beside other members of the family. The wife and only sister [living locally] have the sympathy of the entire community. Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Perkins, Mr. and Ms. Geo. Pennock and Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Pennock, of Burnside, attended the funeral. Mrs. Cox has been confined to her bed for a week with pneumonia, brought on by the indefatigable care she gave her brother during his illness. All hope for her speedy recovery.
