Frederick A. Lenix was born in Hancock Township, Hancock County, Illinois, the son of James Lenix and Mary Elizabeth Allbright, native Pennsylvanians who came to Illinois in the early 1840s after spending a couple of years in Ohio. Frederick was probably a typical Illinois farm boy, spending his youth attending school and working on his father's farm. By the age of 16 his school days were over, based on the census entry of 1860.
In the summer of 1862 Frederick signed up for service in the Union Army and, it seems, injury or illness resulting from his military service cut his young life short. Less than a year later, Frederick died and was buried at Yetter Cemetery. Of James and Elizabeth's known children, he was the next to youngest and the first to perish. |
