      Randol(1) Odom was born on Aug 19 1804 in Washington County, Mississippi. He died on Jan 25 1885 in Mabank, Henderson County, Texas. He is buried in the Odom-Baird Cemetery, Mabank, Henderson County, Texas. Randol Odom was a Methodist minister. He was the son of Malachi and Mary Russell Odom. Click here to see his will.
      After traveling to Cherokee County in 1847, with his father, mother and brothers, Randol built a log cabin with hand- hewn logs. The house had two rooms and a connecting dog trot hallway. A detached building served as the kitchen.
      After the Civil War, Randol sold the house to his son, Richard Nollie Odom. Isaac Crawford purchased the house in 1882. It has remained in the Crawford family since that time. In May 1980, a Historical Marker was placed on the cabin by the Texas Historical Commission. The cabin is located 3/4 of a mile north of US 84 at Maydelle.

Odom-Crawford House
The Rev. Randol Odom moved here
in 1847 and constructed this
house for his family. Using hand-
hewn logs, he built the original
two rooms and connecting "Dog
Trot" hallway. A detached building
served as the kitchen. After the
civil war he sold the property to
his son R.N. Odom. Isaac Crawford
and his wife Edie Ann (Clark)
purchased the residence in 1882.
Although not continuously occupied
since that date, it has remained in
the Crawford Family.

      The 1850 Census of Cherokee County showed that Randol was a Methodist Minister and owned real estate valued at $960. He and his wife Harriet had 6 sons and 2 daughters.
      Randol Odom was married to Harriet (Nollie) Hayes Odom in 1829 in Mississippi. Harriet (Nollie) Hayes Odom died in 1869 in Madelle, Cherokee County, Texas. Randol Odom and Harriet (Nollie) Hayes Odom had the following children:

(1) Thomas Henry Odom was born on Jun 30 1830 in Wayne County, Mississippi. He was buried in 1915 in Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Cherokee County, Texas. He died on Feb 23 1915 in Madelle, Cherokee County, Texas.
(2) Richmond Nollie Odom was born in 1833 in Rome, Georgia. He died on Feb 6 1917 in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. He was buried on Feb. 8 1917 in Oak Cliff Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
(3) Archibald (Archy ) E. Odom was born on Dec 18 1834 in Mississippi.
(4) Irah Odom was born in 1837.
(5) Mary Odom Lewis was born in 1838 in Mississippi.
(6) John Wesley Odom was born on Oct. 12 1842. He died 1930 in Breckenridge, Texas.
(7) Henry Odom was born in 1842 in Mississippi.
(8) Elizabeth Ann Jane Odom was born in 1846 in Mississippi.
(9) Robert Odom was born in 1849.

Randol Odom was married to Armelia E. Frizzell in 1869. Randol Odom and Armelia Frizzell Odom had the following children:

(1) His name was variously spelled Randol, Randal, Randle, etc. The name is spelled "Randol" on his tombstone and "Randal" on the plaque shown above, and as Randle on his last will and testament.
