|This page is dedicated to my Father, Julius Taft Massey, whom I never knew while he was alive, but have come to know more intimate in death, than anyone else in my life!|
|My earliest proven Ancestor is JOHN MASSEY,Sr., his date of birth is uncertain. Some say it was 1744, but we know he died in 1837,either in Chesterfield or Lancaster County,South Carolina, his grave has not been found.|
One thing is certain, John had two wives: JOHANNA COOK and SARAH CATLEDGE. Sarah, born in 1790, and John were my gr.gr.gr.Grandparents.At this time John's parents and Ancestors further back, are unknown and the search continues.
John and Sarah had my gr.gr.Grandfather JAMES MASSEY, born 1826, died in 1865. James was married to MARTHA C.HILTON. After his death, Martha married Robert Coker in 1869 in Mobile,Alabama.
Martha and James had three children: GEORGE HILTON MASSEY, JOHN WILLIAM MASSEY and ELIZA ANN MASSEY. Martha and her two sons traveled to Texas, after a short stay in Alabama and Mississippi, around 1875, where she and her husband Bob Coker and my gr.Grandfather, John William Massey finally settled in Smith County,Texas.
Just recently I have become involved in the surname DNA testing project for my Massey family name. Since only males can be tested for the y-chromosom, my cousin volunteered, and I have become the Massey surname DNA Project Administrator. Please take a look at our Massey DNA website and consider joining this exciting new project. Instructions on how to join are on the web page or contact me at my e-mail address below.
