My dear Father
In case the “Evening Star” by which I send this should happen to arrive before the “James Baines” mail packet, by which I have written you a long letter containing full particulars of poor Charles Heney’s death; I send you the enclosed notices taken from the papers. It is not however by any means probable that you will get this first, if you should, you must break the matter to Mrs. Heney – McComas & Dr. Tracey as well as myself have written by the “James Baines”. I should like if possible that you were the first to communicate the unfortunate affair to his poor mother; it will be any awful shock to her in any case, but it would be worse were she to hear it suddenly & without any preparation.
Address one in future according to the above direction. Love to all as if named – I feel quite well in health but rather dull, as you may suppose.
I am My dear Father
Your affect. son
