bullet  Events

Janet was 30 years old, and living at Killin, near Garve, at the time of the 1841 census, with her family as follows:

Husband John Gordon - 40 years
Children: David Gordon - 7 years
Mary Gordon - 5 years
John Gordon - 3 years
Walter Gordon - 7 months

Janet died at Garve on 17th March 1887, aged 80 years. There did not appear to be a medical attendant. The cause of her death was given as "Old Age".

The informant was Roderick Gordon, who was forty-four. Roderick you may remember, had given the death details of his father back in 1860, when he was only sixteen.

Janet married John GORDON, son of David GORDON and Mary MacLEOD, on 30 Nov 1832 in Contin, Garve, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.397 (John GORDON was born in 1797 in Tarbet, County Sutherland, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland 397,473 and died 8th April 1860 in Garve, Contin, Ross and Cromarty 397.)

John and Jessie's marriage is also recorded at Urquhart and Logie Wester on the 1st December 1832, by the Reverend Jo Macdonald of that church, who performed the ceremony at Contin.

The church at Urquhart and Logie Wester, in those days, was the centre of a large farming area, and was surrounded by a large churchyard cemetery. Today the church is a ruin, though many of the headstones are still standing, while adjacent is the lone building of Urquhart Farm.
