Gladys lived in the family home of her parents, Murdoch and Emily McLean, with her younger sister Gertrude, and her younger brother, Rees.

Glad is seen here standing in front of her younger sister, Gertrude. Ruby, a cousin, is holding baby Rees.

This photograph is believed to have been taken in October 1904, when little Gladys would have been 3 years and ten months old.

Gladys and Gertrude are seen in this delightful portrait. We think this would have been taken about 1914.

Gladys is seen here, reclining on the beach. We are not sure where, but most probably, Townsville.

Gladys and her sister Gertrude, have taken Arthur out for the day. What fun!

Gladys used to play a violin and piano at the local moving picture theatre. The silent movies had an accompanying musical score - fast for the action bits, slow and soppy for the romantic bits. Gladys was a talented musician.

The McLean girls were obviously subjected to the usual brotherly torments.

Claire remembers that at their house, 57 Aherne Street, when they were young girls being courted by gentlemen, Gladys and her sister, Gertrude, would sit on the front steps, whoever was first home from their evening out with their gentleman friend. Their young brother Rees was a spirited young lad, and he would secrete himself under the steps. When the opportunity presented itself, Rees would grab one leg of each person, causing much mayhem.

Glad's boyfriend Syd, being an Englishman of some nervous disposition, would splutter and cause himself much distress at this surprise.

Glad is seen here with Syd. They married, after all.

Photograph: Twenty first birthday, 1921, Townsville, Queensland. 2 Gladys is seen here, this charming gentle portrait probably taken on her twenty-first birthday, which was 15th November 1921.

Gladys is seen here in a fine portrait. She looks to be wearing an engagement ring, so perhaps that is the reason for the portrait?

Syd and Gladys had an elegant portrait taken on the occasion of their wedding.

This photograph has the mark of "Federal, Townsville" photographers on its reverse.

Gladys' photograph was taken at Greensborough in 1925.

We wonder was this a special occasion?

Gladys would have turned twenty-five on the 15th November 1925.

Gladys is seen here, sitting at the dining room table, with the sideboard behind her.

Emily and Gladys are seen here, strolling along. We believe this photograph was taken in Melbourne. Somewhere.
