Rice Cemetery, Elkhart, Indiana
Elkhart, Indiana is located in Elkhart County.  The county was organized by an act of Legislature on January 29, 1830 which became effective April 1, 1830.  The county was named after the Elkhart River which enters the county near its southeastern corner and runs northwest through the county into the St. Joseph.  Its name is derived from an island at its mouth that resembles the heart of the Elk.

Rice Cemetery is lcoated at 400 James St. in Elkhart, IN.  Map  It is a huge cemetery and if I recall correctly is the largest one in the city with over 24,000 burials.  At the entrance to the cemetery is a Civil War Monument sculptured in 1889 by N. P. Doty.  Source: Sculptural Civil war Monuments in Indiana by Glory-June Greiff
The Sculptural Civil War Monument at the entrance to Rice Cemetery.  On the front of the scultpure, at the base, are the words, "White River."  I didn't realize the significance of the monument when we visited the cemetery and consequently didn't look at all sides of the monument and only took photos of the front
