Cemetery & Grave Marker Photos
Bloomington, Illinois is the county seat of McLean County, the largest county in the state, and is located about midway between St. Louis, MO and Chicago. The county was organized on December 15, 1830 and was named for John McLean, a pioneer lawyer and territorial judge who later went on to become first Representative of Congress from Illinois and U. S. Senator. Early immigrants came mostly from Ohio but there were some who came from Kentucky and New York as well. The county is blessed with very fertile soil and the whole county is underlaid with coal. Stock raising, agriculture, coal mining and manufacturing are the chief occupations. Bloomington is located 59 miles northeast of Springfield and is a flourishing city and railroad center. It is also the home of Illinois Wesleyan University.

Gary and Larry -- Cemetery employees
It was a hot, June day when Zelda was walking Park Hill Cemetery trying to locate all the Prochnow gravemarkers in the cemetery. These two very nice young men offered their services and helped her locate the ones she was still looking for. She will never forget the kindness and thoughtfulness they showed to a little old lady with a camera and a cemetery list of names, doing genealogy research.
All photos were taken during our genealogy research trip in June of 2007. Dates on the photos are incorrect -- a camera error.
