Sylmar, Los Angeles, CA

Sylmar is a district in the San Fernando Valley of the city of Los Angeles, CA.  About 1,500 years before the Spaniards settled, the area was inhabited by Tataviam Native Americans.  Mission San Fernando Rey de España, in what is now the nearby community of Mission Hills, was founded by the Spaniards in 1797.  Father Iballa, Padre, who was at the Mission form 1820 to 1834 was indirectly respnsible for Sylmar's olives.  He recognized the similarity of the climate and soil to that found In Europe where olvies had been cultivated for centures, and sent to Spain for seedlings and planted them around the mission.  In 1874 San Fernando became a city, leading to the naming of the unicorporated land surrounding San Fernando,  Morningside.  This area was renamed Sylmar after incorporation into the City of Los Angeles.

Glenn Haven Memorial Park & Mortuary

Glen Haven Memorial Park & Mortuary is located at 13017 N. Lopez Canyon Road, Sylmar, California 91342.  The cemetery was established in 1940 and is located in the Los Angeles National Forest of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountians.  The Park's natural barriers of the rolling hills of Kagel and Lopez Canyons, protect and discourage any commercial or residential development.  Only 60 of its 160 acres that overlook the beautiful San Fernando Valley are developed.   Since there are no gates or fences, deer, squirrel and other wildlife can often be spotted in the tranquility of the park.  Map: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=7989&CScn=Glen+Haven&CScntry=4&CSst=6&CScnty=201&
