Twin Falls County, Idaho was created in 1907 from the parent county of Cassia.  The county was named for the twin waterfalls that cascade over the rocks of the Snake River which flows through the Magic Valley and further down stream, over the Shoshone Falls.

In 1812 and 1813, Robert Stuart successfully led an overland expedition eastward form Astoria to St. Louis, passing through the Twin Falls area.  This route formed the basis of the Oregon trail.  Other explorers passed through the area during the first half of the 19th century but saw it as an inhospitable region of the West and did not stay. First permanent settlement was a stage shop established in 1864 at Rock Creek, near the present townsite. By 1890 there were only a handful of successful agricultural operations due to lack of infrastructer and  the Snake River Canyon's geography, making irrigation nearly improbable.  In 1900 the Twin Falls Land and Water Compnay was formed with its main purpose the building an irrigation canal system for the area.  Three years later, I. B. Perrine, a successful farmer and rancher, obtained private financing to build Miner Dam on the Snake River.  This dam was completed in 1905 and the canals made commercial irrigation outside of Snake River Canyon practical for the first time.  Perrine is therefore generally credited as the founder of Twin Falls.  Twin Falls was founded in 1904 as a planned community designed by renowned Franco-American architect Emmanuel Louis Masqueray.  Proceeds from sales of townsite lots were applied towards construction of irrigation canals.  Twin Falls was named for a nearby waterfall on the Snake River and became the county seat of the newly-formed Twin Falls County..

After construction of the Milner Dam, agricultural production increased greatly and Twin Falls became a major regional economic center, which continues to this day.  By 1960 Twin Falls had become one of the largest cities of Idaho.  On September 1974, Twin Falls also became the center of national attention when Evel Knievel attempted to jump tthe Snake River Canyon in a specially-modified rocket cycle.  The attempt failed due to high winds and premature deployment of his parachute but the launch ramp is still there.  Gradual diversification of the agriculture-based economy has allowed the city to continue to grow and its industries include computer maker Dell, Inc., Glanbia, and Jayco, a manufacturer of recreational vehicles.  Source: https://sites.rootsweb.com/~idtwinfa/; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Falls,_Idaho
