McDaniels - Howland Genealogy

My name is Laurie McDaniels Howland.

Since my ancestors came from several distinct areas, I've separated them according to research areas rather than surnames.

Virginia,

My paternal grandfather's family settled in Virginia. The earliest known ancestor arrived in Jamestown in 1610 with the second fleet. They came from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Germany, with the odd French Hugenot thrown in.

Norway

My paternal grandmother's parents came from Norway in the mid 1800's & settled in NE Iowa.

Quebec

My maternal grandfather's roots were French & the earliest ancestor came to Quebec about 1613 with Champlain. Some were from France, some from Belgium at a later date.

Northern Ireland

My maternal grandmother's family were also from Northern Ireland, but didn't arrive until mid 1800.

New England

My spouse's name is Borden Howland. His ancestors came mainly from England & settled in New England. They arrived in the 1600's, several in 1620 on the "Mayflower" & pretty much stayed in eastern Massachusetts & Rhode Island.

The information presented here comes from many sources, from my own research as well as from the databases of various relatives and "cousins", both close and distant. Much has not been verified. If you have any additions, corrections or questions, I'd like to hear from you. I have more facts than you see here on most of these people.
